Guide or deliver the club head

How we swing the golf club

There are 2 basic ways of delivering the club head to the back of the ball.

For many years players have been instructed to lead the club to the back of the ball. Hands forward, shaft lean, pull the handle ....

I prefer a different method!

Have you ever been advised to KEEP YOUR HEAD DOWN while making a swing? Keeping the head down makes it difficult to transfer weight to the front foot.

I taught an Army Officer many years ago how to play golf, he had been BLINDED by an explosion in Vietnam. I never told him to keep his head down!

Case in Point

Forward press tells the brain to pull the club back to the ball from where ever you took it on the back swing . The moment you move your hands forward in the setup, the lead arm turns to stone "unnatural".

Place your hands center, where the butt end of the club is center body, both arms become relaxed "natural". There should be No Tension in the set up.

Working with Officer Schults, I had him take a normal stance with his feet a little wider than his shoulders. Rest his upper arms on his chest, bend slightly at the waist to enable him to lower the club to the ground keeping his upper arms connected to his upper body, now he was properly measured to find the bottom of the ball. He was righthanded, so I had him swing the club a few times brushing the turf with his Right hand. Next, I had him put his hands together and swing a few more times brushing the turf. There was no need to keep his Head down, because he was swinging the club, Not guiding it to meet the ball.

When the lead arm pulls the club, the lead shoulder comes up, lifting the player's HEAD. You MUST KEEP the head down to keep an eye on the ball, the hips sway forward arching the lower back, totally unnatural.

For a Righthanded player, I believe he or she must use the coordinated

side of the body to deliver the club. By doing so, the hips will pivot more freely through the ball instead of swaying. The shoulders will Level up sooner, both hips and shoulders will clear through impact producing a balanced finish and the players head will not be pulled away from the ball!!

I have created a simple tool which you attach to the grip. This tool forces the player you use his or her coordinated side to deliver the club, by making a Natural Swing, it is called the" Swing King".
